The Back Room Gang 2008

Tim “Ragin’ BS” Price, Rhonda “Squeaky Wheel” Thurman, Greg “Hot Air” Juster, and Joe “I cannot win an election” Dumas have formed the Back on Track Team. Based upon the conduct of Tim “Ragin’ BS” Price, the team should be referred to as the Back Room Gang.

The Gang is running as a team to change the school board. As Greg “Hot Air” Juster puts it, the team "want[s] all of Hamilton County to know that there are like-minded reformers running for school board that have the goal of spending 92% of the budget in the classroom." Hot Air Juster, however, does not write about how the Gang will redo the school budget to spend 92% of the budget in the classroom. He does not come up with a plan of how he will get a budget passed by the County Commission, and how he will work with the County Commission on these budgetary matters. Unfortunately, the Back Room Gang appears to be full of "hot air" and short on specifics. Rhonda “Squeaky Wheel” Thurman, Greg “Hot Air” Juster and Joe “I cannot win an election” Dumas are trying to be squeaky wheels, trying to get the grease, and they are willing to get the grease anyway the can - with Tim “Ragin’ BS” Price on the Gang, the Back Room Gang is bent on "destroying" anyone who breaks from their slate and its ideals.

Take for example Ragin’ BS Price’s attack on Michael Dzik for leaving the Gang. Dzik was originally a part of the Back Room Gang. He was welcomed with open arms by Ragin’ BS Price, who refers to himself as Raging Bull. Dzik, Dumas, Thurman, Juster and Price were a team, they were on the same mission, they agreed on the goals of getting money back into the classroom, they were pals until Dzik left the Gang. When Dzik left it all changed and Ragin’ BS went to the press proclaiming Dzik bowed to the will of the “establishment.” Ragin’ BS attacked Dzik, leaving the impression that Dzik was a traitor to the gang, a traitor who now has to be eliminated. The Gang’s hit man started to do his work - cross the Gang, and you will be eliminated by the Gang’s hit man Tim Ragin’ BS Price.

The Back Room Gang is nothing more than a group of back room politicians making "smoke filled room" plans to take over the school board. Each member of the Gang talks a good game - they talk about fighting the establishment, they talk about putting more money into the classroom, they talk about trimming the school budget - but their talk is cheap, it is long on hot air and short on specifics.

The public should demand the Back Room Gang to give specifics. If the Back Room Gang wants to return 92% of the budget to the classroom then the Gang must give us a plan and a budget to do it. The Gang needs a specific plan telling us what items in the budget will be changed and how the Gang will work with the County Commission to accomplish that goal. The Back Room Gang talks about change, but they have no plan for change.

Another problem with the Back Room Gang is they do not practice what they preach. Ragin’ BS Price and Squeaky Wheel Thurman recently put up billboards throughout Hamilton County. The billboards were in response to Hamilton County's increase in taxes, a tax increase earmarked for schools. Ragin’ and Squeaky claimed back room deals were made, and sponsored a billboard campaign showing the backroom boys-a group of elected officials who made a backroom deal to increase your taxes. Ragin’ and Squeaky claimed that the tax increase was not necessary, and that back room deals were made by our elected officials to insure a tax increase. In response to their Back Room Boys campaign, Ragin’ and Squeaky were challenged to present a balanced budget to the County Commission and to the community to support their claims that a tax increase was not needed to fund schools. As of today neither Ragin’ nor Squeaky has presented a balanced budget to substantiate their claims that a tax increase was not needed to fund schools.

The Back Room Boys campaign is a political gimmick, demonstrating that Ragin’ Price and Squeaky Thurman are no better than the politicians they target as “Back Room Boys.” This political gimmickry shows the newly formed Back on Track team is no better than a bunch of political thugs making deals in smoke filled rooms. Ragin’ Price and Squeaky Thurman are pulling cheap political tricks, they are leaders of the Back Room Gang. The gang apparently meets in secret, and they come up with a secret plans to take over the school board. The Gang claims it wants change, and the Gang is apparently willing to make change in any way it can, including targeting former Gang members labeling them as “traitors.” Anyone who leaves the Gang becomes a target of the Gang with the Gang’s hit man Ragin’ Bull Price coming to eliminate you.

Now, of course people like Mr. Ragin’ BS Price will say members of the Gang are not elected, and that the Gang members do not have to comply with the open meetings law. People like Ragin’ will say Gang members are not held to the same standards as public officials. However, the Back Room Gang should practice what it preaches by making all of its e-mails, all of its meetings, and all of its plans to change the school board public. The Gang should also give specifics on how change will occur.

It is unfortunate that Rhonda “Squeaky Wheel” Thurman is associating with some people who believe that political blackmail and retribution is the way win elections. The gang’s retribution against Mr. Dzik for leaving is a clear sign of the type of politics the gang believes it must use to get its members elected – the politics of hate.

Hot Air Juster recently wrote that because of some similarities in their political philosophy "it was only natural to team up for change, hoping that would give us a splash in the media as we launched our individual campaigns.  I guess we were right about that."

The splash in the media was created by the Gang’s hit man showing the Gang’s willingness to politically eliminate anyone who leaves the gang.

…if elected and anyone disagrees with the Gang, Ragin’ BS Price will be sent out to eliminate them…

I guess I am next.
