NO WEAPONS

During the Vice Presidential debates Dick Cheney made it clear-he would make the same recommendation to invade Iraq as he did when our troops hit the ground looking for weapons of mass destruction.  Make no mistake about it, when we invaded Iraq the reason for the invasion was simple: Saddam Hussein was a threat because he possessed, and could use, weapons of mass destruction.

This week a report from the chief US chief weapons inspector found no evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.  According to a report by the Associated Press, Saddam Hussein's " weapons of mass destruction programs had deteriorated into only hopes and dreams by the time of the US led invasion last year, a decline brought by the first call for and years of international sanctions, the chief US weapons Hunter found."

At the time of the invasion it was clear that Saddam Hussein was at two bit dictator, without the power to do anything outside Iraq.  Saddam Hussein did not have the power to use weapons, nor did he have the power to distribute weapons.  After this week’s report was issued, the Associated Press reports that President Bush's spokesman justified the decision to go to war.  The Associated Press reports the Bush aid as saying "there was a risk, a real risk, that Saddam Hussein would pass weapons or materials or information to terrorist networks…”

The President continues to hide his head in the sand, his aides telling us that “there was a real risk that Saddam Hussein would pass weapons…to terrorist networks.”  The report is in--no weapons of mass destruction.  It is time for the Bush administration to do what is right--

Apologize, take responsibility, plan for a strategic exit from Iraq establishing ground work for a sound system of government before leaving.  Unfortunately, the Bush administration does not have a plan and we cannot expect an apology to those who died, to the American public, and to the world for simply being wrong.

The Bush administration will continue to do what is politically convenient, flip-flop on the reason the President went to war.
