Moment of Recognition

If you are reading this, long after I’m gone,

This moment of recognition between us two

Is the same for me as it is for you.

For I’ll know you then as I do now,

As I’ve always known you,

And you’ll know me as I’ve always been.

This has always been the plan.

There’s been no change.

It will be as if not a single moment had passed,

Even though I am back to dust.

It was just my body, a soul doesn’t rust.

My soul is here with you here at this moment.

As you read these lines, I am brought back alive

Through these words and what they say to you.

I am talking to you and you are listening

In this moment of recognition.

I’ve written this down

To say hello many years from now

I’m sorry we could not meet in person

But we can see eye to eye

And that is my purpose.

I am not just talking to those

Who are listening here,

But to those like you, way off

In future years,

And in my own world

Of imagination,

Those that I knew

But who are no more,

And those that I never met

Except for the words they left,

Like these I give to you.

With no regrets.

I am the poetry that is in you.

I am the wound that is in your heart.

I am in the joy that comes with the morning.

I am the key that turns the lock

And opens your mind to the art of free thought

And causes you a want, for more of it,

Instead of stumbling around in the dark.

I am your own conscience and your own fears.

I am the best of you and your worst nightmare.

I am that search for truth that springs eternal.

And flows from heart to heart

Through the generations

Down through the ages.

I am the thought that comes to you

In this moment of recognition.

In fact, I am thought itself.

Glad to meet you.
