Survival

Does survival belong only to the strong among us,

And not to the faint of heart who stumble and fall,

As they' re pummeled upon the seas of life,

Clamoring to hang on midst despair and strife,

While the winds howl and waters swell,

Against towering rocks, waiting to ensnare,

So harsh and cruel as they struggle there,

To keep their grip and not be pulled under.

Hang on, don’t let go to return to the depths,

And destruction waiting to take your last breaths.

Pray for the strength your waning spirit lacks,

That belongs to your thick-skinned comrades,

Who stay afloat as the foaming waters rage about,

Knowing not the festering fears they live without.

Believe in the sunshine that comes after the storm,

When clouds disperse in a bright new morn,

Of laughter and joy for those who refuse to give up.

Though faint of heart, you will drink your cup,

Of renewal, not just meant for a stalwart few,

But alongside the strong, it will belong to you, too.
