The greatest danger and biggest problem in the world today is religion. It is the most terrible, most addictive and most destructive drug ever conceived by the mind of man. Religion is insanity. Religion is hypocrisy. Religion is all about hate, although it claims to be all about love. Just imagine how many religious people are hating me right now because of the opinion I’ve just expressed. Religion - or organized religion, mass religion, or anywhere where two or more are gathered under the stupid and hypocritical notion that they know the mind of God – is insane by definition. No human being can know the mind of God, but religious people will explain the mind of God to you all day long. And how did they find that out? It’s in the Book. For Christians, that Book is the Bible. For the Muslims, it’s the Koran. Take the Christian religion, which is the one that I grew up in, how can you reason with people who believe that God has a burning hell prepared for sinners and non-believers to suffer in throughout eternity? How can you reason with people who actually believe that a fallen angel by the name of Satan or the Devil has been at war against God and goodness from the beginning, is responsible for all bad things and sits on the throne of hell? How can you reason with people who believe that Jesus is the only begotten son of God, was born as a result of the Holy Ghost overshadowing the Virgin Mary, and allowed himself to be crucified in order to take on the sins of man and give eternal life to all those who believe that? If that doesn’t seem insane to the reader, then the reader is a Christian. We are living in a Crazy House, my friends. There are about 2.1 billion Christians in the world. The other top lunatics are those who believe in Islam. There are about 1.3 billion of those. They both believe they are the only true religion. And inside of both, deep in the bowels of both are the most insane believers of all – those who will either kill you or be perfectly satisfied if you do get killed for being an enemy of God and not believing as they do. Religion is not a democratic thing. Religion is not about liberty or independent thinking, or logic, or reason. Religion is all about accepting the Book and going along with its rules and the interpretation of those rules by the religious leaders without question. It’s all about obedience and condemning those who don’t believe. It is no place for a rebel or a thinker who refuses to have his mind imprisoned by a Book or trampled beneath the raging herd of mad cattle stampeding for Jesus, or any other human claiming to be God or speaking for God. Religion, like life, is an evolutionary type of thing. It evolves toward the survival of the fittest. Right now, with the Christians and Muslims having such a lead, it looks pretty bleak for the survival of the human race. Look at America. If it’s not the most religious nation in the world, it’s right up there at the top of the heap. Where’s all the goodness? Even an idiot should be able to see that we’re in pretty sorry shape in terms of how we treat our own people, much less how we treat the other peoples of the world. And yet, with all this religion which has brought us to the place we are, the great swell of Christian lunacy is moving to take over the politics and the very government of this country, which, of course means its military and the use of it in waging war against the evil nations of the world. In President Bush and the neo-cons, and Republicans in control of all three branches of the government, they have already established a beachhead. If they get their way, that will be the end of individual liberty and the right to the pursuit of happiness, the freedom to think and speak and believe as you please. Let me repeat, religion is not a democracy. It doesn’t work that way. It says that if you believe, you’re wise, but if you don’t believe, you’re a fool. And they mean that. The good news, when you get right down to it, is that this is a horse race, speaking in an evolutionary sense. The Christians and Muslims might be running one and two, but closing in and gaining speed is the Dark Horse, about 1.1 billion of them – which is to say the secular, the non-religious, the agnostics, the atheists and the others whose minds have not yet been taken over by the Invasion of the Body Snatchers, as it were. To use another horse analogy, the Christians and Muslims are massed together in great herds. The Dark Horse is scattered about like wild mustangs and has not yet gathered itself into a single herd. It’s just not roundup time yet. But that time might just be coming around the next bend. The Christians can refuse to admit it all they want but it was the Dark Horse – represented by such thinkers as Thomas Paine, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and James Madison – that actually won the American Revolution and chiseled out the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If the Christians had had their way, they would have slapped so much religion on those pages that the people wouldn’t have accepted it and there would not have been a United States of America, much less all the freedoms we enjoy today, including the freedom to believe or not to believe. You’ll see a strange thing happen when the Dark Horse does start making its appearance. You’ll see a great number of Christians joining forces with the Dark Horse just as they did in the American Revolution and in the getting of our rights as human beings. There are now and there has always been great numbers of Christians who understand that religion is not a democracy and has no place in a government that was established to protect the individual liberty and thinking rights of every single person in it. There have always been good Christians that look on their religion as their own personal faith and realize that people have an inalienable right to believe or not to believe, and that the government should not force the people to obey Christian laws. Christian laws? When you realize that this is a country of Christians and that the vast majority of the ones that are elected to make law are also Christians, you’ll realize that we’re being strangled to death by Christian laws. Christians believe that the laws should be Christian laws. Never forget that Christianity is based on hypocrisy and self-righteousness and judgment of others. That’s why the vast majority of the millions that are in prison today are there either because of getting high or selling substances to others that would get them high. Christians don’t believe that human beings should have a legal right to get high. Remember prohibition? That was a Christian law. Christians believe that laws should make it a crime for a woman to have an abortion. Not all Christians, of course, but the great swell of Christian lunacy that is moving toward us. These same Christians want laws that will make it illegal for homosexuals to get married. Why should it be any business of the Christians? But that’s their business, to meddle in everybody else’s business and make them conform legally to their religious beliefs. This same great swell of Christian lunacy loved our attack on Iraq and they’ll love whatever nation President Bush and the neo-cons decide to attack next, despite the tens of thousands of innocent civilians that are killed and regardless of how many soldiers are killed. In fact, if you can believe President Bush, it was God that spoke to him and gave him the go-ahead to attack Iraq. Don’t be surprised if he keeps hearing God telling him to keep attacking all evil, non-democratic nations and replacing them with good democracies. You can’t talk, or reason with the insane. And what can we expect to come if the Christian lunacy movement keeps gaining more power and control over the three branches of American government? My guess would be more suffering, more wars and more needless killing until they spark the fuse of nuclear war. The best, last hope we have is in the Dark Horse coming up on the outside, believing that there is a greater goodness in the heart of man than the religious will ever know, and that that is the direction in which we are evolving, and that in the end it truly is a matter of the survival of the fittest, morally and spiritually and intellectually. Keep watching. What appears first now will later be last and it won’t be the mighty but the meek, the honest and the brave that will win the race and inherit the earth and show the world how to live in peace and love instead of all this hypocrisy, lying, killing and hate that the religious are so full of. That’s my expectation. Of course I could be wrong. We could be moving toward the plains of Armageddon at such a pace that the Dark Horse will not be able to overtake the Christians and Muslims down the final stretch.
