Joe Torre led his New York Yankees as far as he
could this year. Let’s
see how far he could take this country if given the chance. And why not? Suppose Bush, Kerry, and Torre were addressing
the nation simultaneously, whom do you think would draw the most
viewers? My bet’s on
Torre. What may begin as a novelty just might score a grand slam home
run. It seems to me that Joe Torre possesses the very
qualities needed to shape up and lead our lost nation.
After all, look at how he manages his ball team.
Exhibiting self-control, patience, careful decision-making, and a
professional demeanor at all times are commonplace traits for Mr. Torre.
He is respected not only by Yankee fans, but also by sports fans
and management across the board. He
radiates honesty and sincerity and promotes teamwork and team play. Time for branching out his abilities. With a carefully chosen dugout of informed
advisors along with his trademark common sense approach, I believe that
Joe Torre would be quite capable of making levelheaded choices in the
best interest of the People. Running a major league dream-team makes him no
stranger to handling a wide spectrum of personalities and reacting
logically to stressful and difficult situations.
He comes through with flying colors with or without bases loaded.
The notion of leading our country is merely an expansion of what
he has proven to do best over the past eight years.
If I do my math correctly, that equals two presidential terms of
excellence. Before you consider dismissing my article as
simply humorous, think again. And
again. So Joe Torre isn’t
a lawyer. Or a senator. Or any member of our political system whatsoever; he’s a
rookie. Perhaps that’s a
good thing. Remember, the
candidates who’ve walked “all the right footsteps” and fit all the
standard guidelines get plenty of criticism and heads shaking their
disapproval. In my opinion, Mr. Torre’s interpersonal skills and
respectable character surpass the traditional formalities. There’s no doubt in my mind that Joe Torre
would be able to run with the best, or worst, of them.
Can he go the distance? You
bet. And he’s no stranger
to extra innings. Just
imagine Joe Torre pitching those unexpected fastballs to his rivals. Game over.
